Welcome and Congratulations!
Committees are the corner stone of the AAO-HNS and drive the future of both the Academy and Foundation. Your involvement is an extremely important part of this process. Thank you for your dedication to the otolaryngology-head and neck surgery community. Working together, we will accomplish great things.

FAQ's
What type of time commitment will be expected of me?
All committee members must attend in-person committee meetings and participate in conference calls. In-person meetings are usually held during the AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO
SM. Calls may take place at any point during the year and will be scheduled in advance.
What if I cannot make it to the annual meeting?
In order for a committee meeting to officially take place, the committee must have a quorum of voting members present (greater than 51%). If you are unable to attend, please contact your committee chair as soon as possible to be excused. If you simply do not attend the meeting and are unexcused, you can be removed from a committee for lack of participation.
Does the Academy reimburse travel expenses?
Generally, committee members are not reimbursed for travel expenses to participate in committee meetings, as most such meetings are held in conjunction with other meetings for which their attendance is customary. On a case-by-case basis, the Academy and Foundation may reimburse the reasonable travel expenses of members of selected committees and members officially representing the Academy/ Foundation at other related meetings. All such reimbursement must receive prior authorization of the Executive Vice President/CEO. All requests for reimbursement must be submitted on the official Board/Committee/Delegate Travel Expense Reimbursement Request form, which contains the policies governing reimbursements, available from the respective committee staff liaison. Travel Expense Reimbursement Requests, along with original receipts for all expenses, should be submitted within 30 days of the date the travel began. Expenses may not be reimbursed for reports submitted after 90 days from the date the travel began.
When does my committee meet?
The most up-to-date listing committee meeting times can be viewed on the
Annual Meeting & OTO EXPOSM website.
Where can I find the names of my fellow committee members?
The current committee rosters can be viewed on the
Academy's website. Committee rosters will also appear on your committee's
community page on ENTConnect once you are officially a member of the committee beginning on October 1, 2015.
My position is listed as Member*, what does that mean?
Member* means you are a Non-Voting Member of the committee. While you cannot vote during a committee session, which happens rarely, you are afforded all the rights and privileges of a committee member, including your Honor Point at the end of your service on the committee.
Why am I a Non-Voting Member?
Article II Section 2.01 of the Academy and Foundation Bylaws lay out the voting status of its members. While you may be listed as a Non-Voting Member, this does not preclude you from being able to participate on the committee.
Why is my term only one year?
In 2012, the AAO-HNS/F Board of Directors approved changes to the terms for residents and fellows in-training in order increase opportunities for mentorship and exposure within AAO-HNS/F Committees and to diminish the challenges to SRF members.
Do I need to reapply for committee membership at the end of my term?
No, simply inform your Chair of your intention to continue to serve on your committee. The Chair shares their recommendations for reappointment with the President-Elect directly; there is not a formal re-application process.
This will be my third term, can I serve as a fourth?
Committee members are only allowed to serve on a single committee for three consecutive two-year terms. Members must wait for two years before they can serve as a voting member again, but can serve the committee as a consultant or a guest during this time.
